The view-source: Link
forms and protocols 1998 partlyA link straight to a page's source code, from when view source was a destination.
In 2026: Partly. The view-source: scheme still works typed into the address bar of Firefox and Chrome, but clicking it in a page has been refused for many years, because framing or scripting a source view was abused. So the link below does nothing at all when clicked, silently, which for this library counts as a demonstration. The scheme was never formally standardised; it is a browser tradition.
Where it came from: Netscape Navigator's view-source: scheme, mid 90s. Link navigation to it was locked off across browsers in the 2000s after abuse.
